Default T ring issues.. I think?

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I've been on the forum.

About a year ago when I got into the hobby of astrophotography I picked up a t ring, field flattener package and it worked perfectly for that summer but after the winter and not using it when I went back to get the setup running again my camera seemed to not register that it was connected and the image through the lens was completely blurred. I tried cleaning the connections on the t ring but no luck.

I figured I'd put a post up here before dropping another $50 on a new t ring to see if any of you had some ideas of what the issue might be?

    Thank you.

I'm unclear what you mean by the Camera doesn't register that is was connected...

The camera just uses the telescope as a big manual focus prime lens.

Are you using the focus on the telescope? The focus control is not on the camera itself, just like any lens that is Manual Focus.

If there isn't any physical damage ie cracks or fungus on the field flattener then it's not the flattener, it sounds like it will most likely be your collimation or focus or the camera, you can test the collimation on the scope buy inserting an eyepiece and doing a star test on a bright star while in a slight defocused position,

you can also test the camera if you have a camera lense to rule this out as well

Well I'm a little confused too because the t ring has what looks to be gold electrical contacts just like the lens that came with the camera has so I figured maybe the camera needs to be able to read that there's a lens attached and that the contacts are damaged. I thought maybe the focus was just off and I needed to connect the camera to the telescope but when I did that, no matter how I tried I couldn't reach focus.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have the lens and it works perfectly so thankfully it's not the camera.

Well, some cameras need to see a lens attached, so that may explain the electrical contacts. But that would have nothing to do with focusing, since the camera doesn't do any focusing for AP. You have selected Manual Focus, haven't you? All focusing is done using the telescope's focuser.
