Welcome Lone Star! I too am 64 and been interested in the night sky since I was a kid back in Jr. High. The Apollo space program really got me hooked at looking at the stars, etc. Still look at all of God’s marvelous creation with awe and wonder. Keep looking up.

Welcome back, Lone Star. I love that shot of your van set up for a night of wandering wonder, always looking in the dark corners to find the surprises.

The picture was taken at Big Bend National Park at the camp site Paint Gap 1. I'd load up and spend a few nights doing some serious looking through an eye piece. I'd visit the camp site 2-3 times a year. It's been awhile since. When the van came into play, the wife asked... Just how expensive is your telescope going to get. But she enjoyed the camping so I got off the hook easy enough.256658_134307273311434_1781844_o.jpg

Found a great visualization of the event in this short video. What really did it for me was the sudden micro-flash before the gradual expansion of the nebula, along with the question of whether we'd be able to see it in the day time sky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJPVuSNFxlY
