    Default Accessory Bag

    Hello all!

Now that I have a great dob and have collected a few eyepieces, I am looking for a good “astronomy bag” to carry these delicate items around. What do you folks use? Thanks in advance!

For eyepieces and such, I have a metal toolbox with a pluck-foam insert to transport them with protection. For less fragile items, such as power and signal cables, electrical adapters, etc, I use an electrician's tool caddy that has lots of pockets and compartments. It is made out of heavy nylon fabric.

If you're talking about something for the EPs, these are pretty handy and very affordable.

If you're talking about a bag for the Dob, I don't use one although I have transported it in a large sleeping bag.

Many people use cases like these for eyepieces, filters and small accessories. https://www.harborfreight.com/18-in-...ase-62271.html
They come with pluck foam to help customize the interior.
There are more expensive cases such as HPRC or Pelican that offer exceptional protection for storage and long distance/ air travel.

There are of course many cases in between of varying quality but the aluminium cases do a good job around the home and out to the local dark site.

There's also the Harbor Freight Pluck Foam Apache cases.

Old school camera cases work well too. Here's my EP case. It's an old Kalimar 'tacklebox' style camera case. It's terrific.

I use a repurposed aluminum dental instrument case, but I've seen a couple of tackleboxes at WalMart boxes that had adjustable bins.

    Hello Greg,

I take repurposed aluminium cases with foam, the refractor is in a golf travel bag,
the tripods are in the Breuninger bags - they used to give for free when selling the golf clubs.

I pay much more attention to getting the quality optics than to the cases and bags,

It's a chronic problem for me. Nothing I use seems to last more than a few months. There is always some new item or new scope config required that means that my EP/accessory box needs re-thinking.
Cables are the worst problem. Where do you put them? Just throw them into a shopping bag and haul them out all tangled up and breaking the RJ connectors?
A battery box? I need four batteries to run my equipment.
I use two cameras depending on the subject and two OTAs.
    Intervalometers x 2.
I am sure my neighbors wonder who this homeless person is "carrying his/her home in two carrier bags". (Tom Paxton.) Or more bags in my case.
For sure the expensive items (EP'S),and guide camera go into a padded box and the cameras stay in theirs.
For me it is a nomadic existence.
If I were to put all my stuff into one container I would need one large enough that I could live in it.
    Now there's a thought....
