Default Attention Beginners and New Forum Members - AF Awards Programs!

    Howdy friends!

Those of you who are new to the forum or new to astronomy in general may not be aware of the Visual, Sketching, and Astrophotography awards program we have here at AF!

If you are starting out with any of these three aspects of amateur astronomy, these programs are a great way to learn the ropes on some of the best and brightest objects in the night sky.

For those in the northern hemisphere, the Messier Catalog provides a great list of 110 objects to get started on. For those in the southern hemisphere, we have our very own Southern Sky Challenge list of 110 objects to pursue. Of course, one can always dip into either list regardless of hemisphere as many are visible no matter where on Earth you are (light pollution permitting, of course).

Check out these links to learn more:

Messier Visual: Astronomy Certificate Visual Awards Program Apply Now!!!

Southern Sky Visual: Southern sky award challenge!

Messier Sketching: Messier Sketch Awards & Badge Program!! Apply Now

Southern Sky Sketching: Southern sky challenge sketch awards.

Messier & Southern Sky Astrophotography: Astrophotography Contests Messier & Southern Sky Photo Challenges & Awards Apply Now!

Not only do you get cool award icons on your profile page as well as your post headers, but you also get a suitable for framing awesome certificate to celebrate your accomplishment!

Best of all though, you gain a tremendous amount of sky experience no matter which aspect of the program you go for. Valuable skillsets to carry you forward as you progress in the hobby.

So take up the challenge and go for one of these award programs now! If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask!

Totally vouch for Southern Sky Award Challenge, it has provided a ton of fun (for more than a year now), and made me improve considerably in this hobby.

Can't thank enough the people who put this list together! Tks again guys!

The summit is near now, gotta get those last few before astro baby is born, I suspect there will not be too many quiet astronomy nights after that
