Default Help deciding Barlow for beginner?

    Hi,

I am a complete beginner to astronomy and just got a Meade d114 f1000 telescope with 9mm and 25mm eyepieces. I've been out with it a few times watching the moon and mars. I've been reading up about Barlow's and seems like a good tool to have in any astronomy kit.
After searching Amazon, I've narrowed it down to three options I like:

    Celestron Omni 2X Barlow Lens - https://www.amazon.com/Celestron-Omn...dp/B00008Y0TM/

    Celestron 93529 X-Cel LX 1.25-Inch 2x Barlow Lens (Black) - https://www.amazon.com/Celestron-935...dp/B005G4HT6I/

    Meade Instruments #126 1.25-Inch 2x Short-Focus Barlow Lens - https://www.amazon.com/Meade-Instrum...dp/B00000K3RG/

I'm interested in a 2x Barlow for now to start off with and looking for something good quality, but in the price range of the three options. I know there are far better ones, but I just want something decent to get started on. Mainly interested in planetary viewings.

Any advice on the pros and cons of the options? What would you recommend?

    Thanks :)

This is a good barlow for beginners

    https://agenaastro.com/gso-1-25-2x-a...rlow-lens.html

I believe you can also get it through Amazon, but Agena offers free shipping on all orders.

GSO is a better quality barlow then Omni 2x or Meade you listed. It has also and advantage of removing the nose peace and attaching it to your EP, which gives you 1.5x option in addition to 2x.

X-Cel LX is also a good barlow, but in this price range there are better options. Like Baader 2.25x

    https://agenaastro.com/baader-q-barlow-bqb-2956185.html

This is better option than X-Cel LX and if you willing to pay extra ~$20, definitely better optical quality then GSO.

I love my trusty old Parks barlow. They still make them today, you can see them here:

Years ago they were considered among the best.

Thanks everyone for your quick advice

I ended up going for the higher quality suggestion of Baader 2.25x Q Barlow from @Bigzmey.

Thanks so much again! I will hopefully let you know how it goes!

Good choice! I got Baader barlow after trying a few others including Celstron X-Cel LX and Omni and Meade Shorty. You skipped the trial and error portion and went straight for the good stuff.

I have almost all of the Barlows mentioned above, there isn't much between the Meade, Omni and GSO. Optically they are identical. The Meade has a brass drawtube and the GSO has no undercut. The X-Cel is nicely made and the Baader Q-Turret is compact and high quality. I like the Q-Turret as it has no compression ring. I'm pretty sure the X-Cel doesn't have a removable cell (I can't remove it lol), the Meade cell is also un-removable although the drawtube itself unthreads.
