Default Solar filter for a Zhumell Dob 8"? What works?

Hi. I have the Zhummel Z8 and trying to figure out what solar filter fits. The link you posted does not show part. Is it the Orion 10" Solar Filter you say fits my Zhummel Z8? Thanks

Hi Skip! The link in question on that old thread was to a no longer available 9.25" full aperture glass filter on the Orion website.

Best thing to do in these cases is to measure the outside diameter of your optical tube assembly (OTA, aka the scope) and purchase accordingly.

Also, in many cases, it is more economical to purchase an appropriately sized sheet of Baader Solar Safety Film and contruct your own frame to fit over the end of your OTA. There are many DIY plans out on the net for doing this and it is quite easily accomplished.

    Welcome to the forum, BTW.

You can save yourself some money and make your own filter with a sheet of Baader solar film.
    https://astrosolar.com/en/informatio...-or-telescope/

Note that there is no need to cover the entire aperture - just remove the small off-axis insert in in your OTA cover and tape some Baader solar film onto the inside of the cover (see photo in link)

Great advice there. When observing the Sun, there's no need for all that aperture, hence no need to purchase that much solar film.

    Good luck!
