Default Eclipse, wild life Meade Infinity 80 mm AZ?

I'm excited about the eclipse. Heading north of KCity. Flying by plane with my wife (our anniversary) and meeting my in-laws there. I have Clestron 10x50 binoculars and I'm building solar filters from Baader Astrosolar film. I'd also like to have a telescope. I'd like to keep it under $200 and will be flying to KCity, fortunately direct, so relatively portable is important. Next year, I may be taking my wife to Alaska for her birthday. She said, " maybe we can use it to look at wildlife". Maybe?

What does the forum think about Meade Infinity 80 mm AZ? It seems small except the tripod/mount. I was planning on building my own solar filter from Astrosolar film and building a solar finder. It seems the same as the Meade Adventure Scope but with better eyepieces and better mount. Sure, I'd like the smaller tripod but I hear it may be unstable and I'd like to use the telescope to look at the sky with my nephews and friends' kids. Or is the Adventure Scope enough and better for portability

What do you think? Is it portable enough? I was planning on checking the mount (I love Southwest with 2 free checked bags) and carrying on the telescope.

    Thanks,
    David

BTW I just dug out my daughter's (she's now 26) Orion Skyquest XT 4.5. Maybe I'll start using it. Has Ploss eyepieces. Should I use these on the new scope

The Meade Infinity 80 would be an excellent choice and very portable. Yes the plossl EPs you already have will work well with the scope. The Meade Adventurer tripod is practically useless, so get the Infinity. Essentially the same scope I will be using during the eclipse.

Lol this discussion sounds familiar! I raised similar thread over in the refractor forum yesterday and ended up buying the Infnity 80 this evening. You might wanna check that thread out before you buy. Id link it but its a pain on my phone

Are the Ploss's better than the eyepieces that come with the scope?

Most likely they are very similar to what comes with the scope.
