    I would like to buy a telescope primarily for watching Moon & Planets at this stage .
    I would to hone in on this desire rather than the astrophotography money pit at this point. Given you budget go for the intimidate win of just getting out and seeing stuff. My advice on your budget is to get a greater than 6" DOB like the Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic 8" Dobsonian Telescope and a Telrad finderscope. It comes with a 25mm eyepiece and at 1200mm focal length it will give you 48x magnification. If you added in a 2x barlow you would be ready to take the planets, Moon, and Messier objects. As to the astrophotography I would just buy a rig made for that and have the dob for visual. I went for the combo shot with a celestron EdgeHD and I'm in for $3,000 after guidescopes and adapters. It can do both but that dob is just as good for visual and takes no time to setup.

    @GiriMurthy & OleCuss - Thanks for bringing up a interesting point which I was not aware of . Let me read some more info around how critical is to find a dark site to watch & take photos . How about watching from 2nd floor terrace - will it be too bad even at late night ? I am confused now . I can slog late night but I do not think I can drive to a dark site very often :-( . I can stretch my budget four times if that helps me to stick to my terrace , spend more time on the telescope than driving car - it's pain @ Bangalore .

    I have searched few online sites to check the models & prices - but got more confused . Now I have quite a few options as well :-) .
    Telescope | Telescopes | Binoculars | Reflector Telescope | Refractor Telescope | INDIA
    Telescope India | Buy Telescopes & Binoculars Online
    Hobbyplanet Online Shopping Telescopes|Gifts|Sports|Toys|Games|Binoculars at Low Prices & Big Discounts.

    Since you mentioned about Tejraj , it would help if you can also suggest a good reliable place to buy and feel free to suggest one if it happens to come to sight [ disregard the price for the time being ] .

    @OleCuss & GuruMurthy

    " before you start investing money and discover that it doesn't work well where you are " -
    How critical to get to dark site ? I would prefer not to spend time driving @ Bangalore than investing more to get a suitable one with which I can stick to my 2nd floor terrace :-)

    " but I've not been able to find a refractor I think is very worth buying in your budget range. " - Do suggest one and disregard the price at this point . I can delay purchase and stretch my budget by four times if required to get both watching & capturing .

    Do you suggest Tejraj supplies is a reliable one ? They are @ Mumbai and I can not travel there to try them before buying . Any other suggestion of a good reliable place is welcome .

    I guess you are right - I have to get one & start watching . The more I read the more I get confused whether to spend now or later :-( . I can stretch my budget but not sure to extent is advisable at this stage .
