    Default M74

So I am pretty sure I found it. I thought M33 was hard to see pfft....this one is worse. I made a terrible sketch, but a sketch nonetheless. I could hardly see it at all. Thoughts? 20141018_201113-1.jpg

I thought the stars made it look like it was wearing a hat. LOL. Again, it was hardly visible and the "hat" stars were really dim as well.

Were those six stars "the hat" roughly the same brightness?

A+, you have demonstrated the local asterism very well. SkySafari has the field stars as 10 & 11 mag but they make a very distinctive marker as you have shown. Nicely done!

Yay! I am really bad at sketching but it helps since I can't take a photo if it....yet. I also think viewing M33 last night really helped in being able to see M74 tonight. I knew I probably had to look for a "ghost" again.

What you did is exactly the same process I use. I call them confirmation sketches. Designed to supply enough information I can check my charting program when I am back inside to confirm I hit the target or I was simply imagining things. They aint pretty, aint works of art, but get the job done.
