Default Finally! Ordering AVX mount with newt tonight!

    It is that time!
I remember a post back in November of 2013 where I asked questions about tripod/mount issues with my Celestron Nexstar 127 SLT.
Once we hit on the subject of Celestron's Advanced VX tripod, I fell in love.
I vowed to have that mount this year & better late then never!
I'm ordering the Advanced VX 6 Newtonian Reflector as it only costs $100 more than just buying the AVX by itself.
This way, I gain a secondary telescope with a much faster f ratio.
Mak is f/11.8, 6 inch Newt is f/5.
But most important, my 127 SLT Mak tube will be basking in a rock solid sturdy German Equatorial Mount.
My neighbor & fellow astronomer Steve Franks & I have had very few cloudless nights here in SE Michigan as this summer was quite different.
Chillier weather with only three days above 90, very unusual.
But I'm looking forward to first light with this new scope then putting the 127 Mak on the AVX mount.
Taking the next step in our glorious hobby, I'll make sure I provide a full first light report on the newt & on how the Mak responds to the AVX mount.
Many thanks to all of the great astronomers here on Astronomy Forum, you've taught me well & I'm still listening and learning from all of you!

Funny part was I didn't know B&H Photo wasn't open on Saturday & they begin taking orders at 8:15pm that night.
So I had to wait over 10 looonnnnnnnnnnng hours to place the order.
Cool that they offered free shipping, no tax & one of those Celestron Firecell red lights with USB.
    Should be here next Wednesday.

Hi Cargenna2. I picked up an AVX a couple of weeks ago to use as a second mount. It works the same as my CGEM except it weighs a lot less. I am very satisfied with the AVX so far.
I had to order an adapter from ADM to be able to move scopes from the CGEM to the AVX .Since I don't have it yet I am doing some AP using the AVX with a Skywatcher ED80 scope. Works great. I can't wait to get the adaptor and find out how the AVX handles my SW 120 refractor and ST 80-A guide scope.

Best of luck to you and your new mount. Be sure to give us a report and maybe some pictures you get with your set up.

I agree with how well the AVX mount works.
My neighbor Steve Franks has the Advanced VX 6 refractor & I've had plenty of chances to use it on our viewing sessions together.
I'm amazed at how sturdy the mount is & how the object stays centered literally for hours if the alignment is correct.
I'm looking forward to being able to use more than two alignment stars for more precise tracking too.
Even the sound of the AVX mount in motion is music to an astronomer's ears!

Cargeena2, Congrats on your mount choice, and the bonus of Newtonian for just $100 more. You seem to have gotten a good deal with not having to pay tax or shipping.

I have the same mount, and it has definitely given me great service. I use it for both visual and photographic work when on the road. The nice thing is that it is fairly light weight, and easy to set up.

Best wishes on first light with the new system. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Caley

Thanks Caley, I have to give credit for my choice to my neighbor Steve and especially a member of this forum named Slymin.
His YouTube video review was very well made & had plenty of details about this telescope & mount.
His best point, as I've seen in many other websites, is that it makes perfect sense to spend the extra $100 for the 6 inch Newtonian reflector.
I was looking ofr a way to get the AVX mount so the newt ofr the extra hundred just made the deal sweeter.
Now I'll have two different types of telescopes.
One Mak f/11.8 & the other an f/5 6 inch newtonian reflector.
And both will easily work on the AVX mount, I couldn't ask for any better deal that works with our finances.
