Default Celestron AVX portable power options

Currently, I am looking at portable power packs for my AVX.

My understanding of a 12V system is the mount will determine the draw that is needed to power it. So any 12v battery bank with a 12V port would work to power the mount.

If possible I'd like to purchase something other then the Celestron Power Tank that has more utility(something that comes with a jumper cables, compressor etc.). Before ordering, I'd just like some one to confirm that what I'm ordering will work with the AVX mount.

The Celestron power tank (according to the owners who post on these forums) is not worth the money. Your money would be better spent on a simple inexpensive Jump Start Battery from any of the big retailers (Wally World, Sears, Harbor Freight, Pep Boys etc). These Jump Start Batteries are typically 12 to 17 Ah (amp hour) devices. If all you are doing is powering the mount and not adding in a camera or a laptop or a dew heater then it will last all weekend long.
I currently own 3 ($40 average price) and use them all over the place (scopes, cameras, laptops, dew heaters, etc). One of these days I will build a central power source for all my "stuff" but for now the Jump Start Batteries work great.

JT, It all depends on how much money you are willing to spend. I had the same question when I was first trying to determine what power pack I would get for my AVX mount. I decided on the http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000TKHMWK/...l_17552yqc50_e

This power pack provides all the power for my mount and Canon 600D for at least 6 hours. I have never run it all night, so I do not know how much longer it will continue to provide the proper voltage to run both pieces of gear. I like it because it has a smart charger, has two ports for USB power, three sockets for 120 volt power, and of course the cigarette lighter type receptacle that your mount is powered off of. It also has a port so that you can use the provided jumper cables to add another battery to it. But...., your smart charger device will not charge that additional battery. You will need to get a regular battery charger for the add-on battery. The add-on battery is the way I will go when I start using a computer.

I hope this helps you. Best to you on your ventures into our wonderful hobby. Caley

Okay great, so the Stanley will work with the mount . I will go ahead and order it.

I didn't even think about jumping an additional battery. Great idea!

    Thanks!

I bought the Cobra CJIC350 power pack/jumper. Very happy with it. Has a USB port, 900 peak amps, LED flash light, Jumper cables, 110V outlet, charge meter, Cigarette Lighter Adapter, and 260 psi air compressor.

It will last me about 2 full nights of observing (maybe 6-8 hours) before it gets to the point where I want to charge it again.....I don't let it get too low, especially when using it for a telescope.

    But, overall, I dig it...

The Stanley should work just fine for you. It has a 19Ah battery that will run your mount all night with power to spare. Be sure to charge it after every use and unplug it when fully charged.
