Default Impressed with Baader Hyperion 13mm

I just received my Baader Hyperion 13mm today with the 14 & 28mm fine tuning rings.
What impressed me the most was how many magnifications I can get with this one EP.
I have a Celestron Nexstar 127 SLT & used the EP in the following ways:

    1500mm focal length, 127mm diameter, f/11.8

    13mm EP itself: 13mm
    13mmEP w/ 14mm FTR: 10.8 mm
    13mm w/ 28 mm FTR: 9.2
    13mm w. both FTR: 8.1

    13mm with Celestron Omni 2x Barlow: 6.5
    13mm w/ CO2x & 14mm FTR:5.4
    13mm w/ CO2x & 28mm FTR: 4.6
    13mm w/ CO2 & both FTR: 4.0

    13mm w/ focal reducer: 26.0
    13mm w/ FR & 14mm FTR: 21.6
    13mm w/ FR & 28mm FTR: 18.4
    13mm w/ FR & both FTR: 16.2

Another notable part of this EP is how they have the M43 & M54 mountings at the top of this EP where one can mount a webcam, DLSR or certain types of video cams to the EP for afocal & eyepiece projection astrophotography. (with t2 adapter, M43/T2 rings & 1.25 camera adapter.

Not quite sure if the last set of figures with the focal reducer are correct.
Also, I was impressed by using the 2x barlow with both FTR rings.
My theoretical mag limit is 300x but the image in my EP was clear using the 2x Barlow & both FTR rings, putting me at 375x.
From what I saw, the claim that Baader Hyperion EP work better at higher f ratios is indeed true.
The views were in the daytime after the mailman delivered the EP, I focused on a bolt on a telephone pole about 300 yards away.
Can't wait for a decent SE Michigan night sky to see how well it performs!!
A great investment for such versatility!
I'm very interested in others that own or have used a BH 13mm EP, it is indeed worth it's weight in gold to me.

I've never used the rings, but really like the Hyperions. They work well with fast scopes too. I have a complete set with two "spares"… 10mm & 13mm.

I like the way you detailed the eyepieces in your original post. I'm a big fan of calculating every aspect of my eyepieces and my scopes. It gives one a true sense of exactly what they have, but more importantly… what they need next.

    Nice Report! Thanks much.

I was impressed with these EP shortly after I purchased my telescope last year.
But I chose to get most of the Celestron Omni EP as a step above the stock EP that came with the scope.
They are quite spectacular out of the box, a lot bigger & heavier than I imagined.
But I couldn't be happier that I finally purchased one.
The main selling point for me were the FTR's and how the EP can attach to various cameras.
I didn't really want to go any wider FOV than the 68 degrees although I've seen glowing reviews from those that own 82 or 100 degree EP's.
Going from 52 with the Omni EP to 68 with this one is a perfect jump for me.

Hi, I have the Hyperion 13 mm and 20 mm with both and 14 & 18 mm FTR. I love all the opportunities of magnification that I get.

I don't change the FTR in the dark, they have a very fine thread.

Nice EP, congrats on your new EP.

I use my EP with this diagonal

Very nice diagonal, my neighbor & I both purchased a Williams Optics Dura Bright Dielectric diagonal, I have to say that coupled with the Baader 13mm & my Celestron Omni 2x Barlow the optics are quite impressive.
Your diagonal has a very similar look to the WO, bet you enjoy better views too.
The t amazing thing was I have a cheaper made Meade 3x and the view was quite crisp, knowing that with it I exceeded my theoretical mag limit of 300x.
Of course, that was a daytime view.
I would imagine the night views would be extremely different but still impressed at how well it clicks with my other accessories.
The Baaders do seem to love high f ratio scopes!

    hi;

I agree with you the difference between the Baaders 13 and 21 mm with this diagonal,

TPO 2" SCT Quartz Dielectric Diagonal - OPT Telescopes

and the 25 mm EP and the diagonal that came with my 6" OTA Celestron, it's really huge
