Thanks PCH(Paul), all three photos were shot hand held. True they could be better with a tripod. Shot # 006 was at 1/400 sec., f8, ISO 100. Shot # 0068 at 1/160, f8 or f 11, ISO 80, and shot # 45 shot at1/250 f11, ISO 80. All shots was PP using Adobe Photoshop CS6.

I would like to know what is this object ( thought to be Venus-my mistake), I would greatly appreciate your help in IDing this star or planet. I have forgotten what my Lat. and Long. is for Concepcion, I will need to download Google earth and find this for my house location in the city. Thanks, I need lots of help from you and others like you.
On that date & time, the moon was in Virgo and your "star" turns out to be the planet Mars! Mars was magnitude -1 (fairly bright -- that's just over 6 times brighter than Spica which is the brightest actual star in Virgo and would have appeared left and slightly higher than the moon.)

It got a planet in your shot after all -- just not the one you thought!

Thanks very much Tim, So it is Mars, great, I will correct my info. My wife also thought it was Venus. I thought it could have been Mars or Venus. I need to study up on the Celestial objects. I am just beginning and love this but with this and my computer I have to sleep later or take a nap,ha. I will be 75 in April and have lots to do and catch up.

Thanks Jiffycoil, Yes all were shot hand held. Some I now shot with a DIY tripod made up with a Heavy duty Ball Head that fits my Bogen light stand ( some what heavy duty, but I use a med. size bag with tools to weigh it down, but it does have a small shaking at the top and I have to wait a few sec. before softly clicking the exposure button ( at this time I engage the self timer-10 sec.). I have on order a remote timer( hand control) with a camera sensor to fit my camera ( 2.4 ghz). It should arrive soon, I hope. I did have very nice Bogen tripod for a view camera but had to sell it some years ago when I first arrived to Chile and at that time I had darkroom equipment, etc. Now I have gone 80% digital. I am orginally from Greenwood, SC. and often fly into the Charleston AF Base on MAC flights( Space A). On my next trip up I hope to fly this way to shop and get a telescope and return MAC flight, Space A. I am a retired USNavy photographer, retired 1982, 23yrs.service. Photography since 1957.

Thanks Marshall for the nice comment. I am just starting, I need to learn lots. I was a US Navy photographer(E-7 retired in 1982, 23 yrs service) but did other kind of photography, no digital then. I just started with Digital ( Sony point and shoot in 2002) and now I use a Konica Minolta 5D and have large selection of lenses, from 300mm f4 to a 18-35mm AF zoom and a few Minolta film camera bodies that will take all my lenses. I do very little processing now, take it down town for processing ( color) but soon I will start up my B&W film processing. But to take Astro photos, digital is the best way.

    Hi Phototom2,
I'm retired Air Force and understand "Space A". If you're ever coming to SC and would like some time on the telescope let me know. My wife and I live in a rather dark sky area of Charleston and if skies are clear we have great views. Like they say "Southern Hospitality". Cheers and clear skies.
