Default Good News-Bad News Scenario Today!

    The Good News:

I finally managed to get the RS-232 cable & USB to serial cable working for my 127 SLT.
I then downloaded the NexRemote software but couldn't get it to work so I called Celestron Tech Support.
The lady emailed me a link with special instructions since I have Windows 8.
I followed the procedure complete with pictorial step by step instructions & it works fine.
I also had to download the hand control, motor control & Celestron Firmware updates the same way!

Next I connected the cables to my laptop & the hand controller & lo and behold, the virtual hand controller is on my desktop!
So naturally I begin using the directional arrows to slew the telescope from my virtual PC control, too sweet!
I listened to the voice telling me whatever was on the virtual hand controller screen, noticing the speech was off on some of the wording.

Downloaded all the updates without any issues.

    The bad news:

It is going to be rainy, overcast & just plain yucky here in SE Michigan maybe past next weekend!

    Why me!!
    Not now!!
I wanna use my updated telescope!!!!!!

    Oh well, have to wait!

HAHAHA that's always the way!! But I have a question...what did the update do? I've had my telescope for the last 10-11 months and haven't updated the remote control. Does it add more objects that it'll slew to automatically??

Actually if there is any firmware updates for either the GoTo computer, the hand controller or the motor they will greatly increase performance on alllevels.
In the Celestron Firmware update, I saw where they said there were bug fixes & that the GoTo would center on the objective faster.
They didn't say what the bug fixes were though.
I believe that when I turned on the telescope for the first time & saw the date stating 01/01/2009 that updating as much as I could would be the right thing to do.
I didn't check to see which firmware versions they were before, probably would have been good to see but I'll notice some type of positive change as the GoTo seemed to lag at times due to backlash & centering was good in the FOV at times but could have been a bit better.
I liked watching at the updates for the motor fine tuned tha Altitude & Azimuth 1% at at time up to 100% updated.
I'll definitely be posting next decent evening as to any noticeable improvements.

Thanks John, I have been keeping busy updating all the firmware on my GoTo, plus ordered some nice Astro Cards.
