Default Alignment Without The Use of Polaris

    Hi folks,

I really didn't know where to post this, so my apologies in advance for misplacement.

One of my piers is not "privy" to Polaris. (One little orphan branch on a big fat pine tree - this problem may be short-lived!) Is there a link, somewhere, I could get on for instructions for aligning the mount on this pier? I've heard it can be done, I just don't know the procedure. (And I hate to keep depending upon my friend to help me) I would rather become "self-sufficient", if possible.

    Thanks, folks. I appreciate it.

Hopefully someone with a better idea will chime in. . .

But if not, I'm thinking that you could simply get the thing pointed in roughly the correct direction and then do a drift alignment? Or, if you are set up to use a camera and computer you could try using Alignmaster for a really fast fix?

Note that I'm not claiming expertise, just saying what I'd be considering trying if no one wiser were around.

"One of my piers"... geez I wish I had your problem! How about doing a rough alignment then using PHD for fine alignment? Never tried it myself but I heard it works great.

I was going to recommend Alignmaster also. You can get a 30 day free trial.

You are using a CGEM, the all star polar align built in to the handset will do it for you.
