    You guys are awesome! Thank you so much for the friendly advice. I too feel like I'll need to give the C11 a fair shake. Considering my limited ability to test it under real stars, I was rushed to determine if mine was a lemon so I could return it promptly if needed.
    As it happens, the early evening last night was relatively clear with mild temps, a little breezy, but not terribly gusty.
    As usual, the clouds did roll in, but there were enough patches of clarity to allow me to get a much better collimation and the views improved considerably. Took the EP to 5mm (560x) and got good centering and concentric circles (after tweeking), though seeing at that mag wouldn't allow sharp focus, so I've still never seen the "airy disk".
    I'm still curious how I'd like the views of a 5" or 6" refractor, acro or apo. Hopefully someone at the next messier marathon will have one to see.

    You couldn't be more right. Huge difference between a focal distance of 50 yards and "infinity". At 50 yards, collimation looked great. On real stars, it was clearly way off.
