Default Eye Piece for Celestron Omni XLT 150, please help!

Hello guys, how are you doing today? I'm about to buy the Omni XLT 150 newtonian, and I'm curious about one thing. Considering that it is not a high end telescope, which eye-pieces series/brand it would be the best for it? I'm into planetary and deep sky objects, and I was thinking in buying for example, some televue Nagler 5mm and 16mm, but I'm really afraid that maybe, a Meade super plossl 4000, would do the same job (like I said, considering the telescope).

I read a lot about a bunch of eye-pices in the last few days, but I'm really lost in wich should be good. My budget is not big, but I wouldn't mind expending a good money in one or two eyepices, and being happy with them for couple years.

I would really appreciate if someone could give some light about that, because I'm from Brazil, and this kind of equipment, I can only find overseas, so I can't give myself the luxury, of buying the "wrong ones".

I know that is not a simple question, but anything you could throw me, would be of a big help! I really would love, to take out the maximum this Telescope can give me.

Thank you very much in advance!

P.S.: I don't even know if I'm posting on the right place, cause I'm newbie on the forum.

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm really not sure exactly how to help you at the moment because there are a huge number of variables that come into play. Because I'm lazy I'm going to first recommend you start with this thread: http://www.astronomyforum.net/telesc...eyepieces.html

But a few additional notes? You are buying a fairly fast telescope. You may hate Plossls with that telescope - or you may find they are just fine for your purposes. It is pretty reasonable to use the eyepiece that comes with your telescope for a month or two before deciding just what additional eyepieces you want to get.

But if you must purchase right now, you might want to take a peek at the OPT Corp Superviews. Only two of them, I think, have 1.25 inch barrels and will fit into your telescope. I believe OPT Corp will ship outside the US so I'll give you a link in case you are interested: Search for in - Oceanside Photo & Telescope

One other point? The Meade 4000 Super Plossls are just Plossls. Well, they may be pretty nice Plossls, but they are not "super". I think it was before 1994 that the Mead Super Plossls really did fit into the "Super Plossl" category, but they no longer do.

Olecuss, I'll check the article and the OPT, and I'll keep a certain cautiousness about the plossl in mind. I heard something about them too, that the old ones made in japan was better.

    Many thx.
