10Likes I have mentioned in a few threads here that this can be a hobby filled with aloneness. You know ...no one to talk to..no one to share the thrill of new discoveries...no one to be your sky buddy..no one who understands what this all means in the big picture.
I decided I can't continue like this. I started my own group.
Signing up on the Meetup website (based out of NYC) I have attracted 9 members since the beginning of the month.
Tonight we held our first Meetup with 4 members and it was a joy to be there. I was nervous to begin with but with people who think alike those feelings were short-lived.
There now is a good chance that this small group may expand with others out in this area that have been functioning in their own small groups. I never would have ever thought there was as many of us in my little corner of the world as I have come to find..
It has been a good night.
I am at peace
I should have reached out earlier.
But I know now.
Check out Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup to start your own group.
Regards
Bob

Yea I know what you mean, it would be nice to have someone else around that has their own gear and you can share the hobby together. Sometimes I like to be alone with my thoughts but other times I wish I had a buddy or a few people around to share the experience with. Thanks for the link and I'm glad you found some people close by. I joined a astronomy club that is about 5 minutes from my house..which is nice, it has about 35 members but I'm the youngest member by about 25 years haha. But there are some members that I can learn alot from.

you know...I was hoping to just get a few guys and gals together to post when and where they are planning to have their scopes out. "Spur Of The Moment " type of focus for us all.
You know the when (now) you know the where (here).. and you just put the invite out there.(come on over) Thats what I hoped for with this group...Informal and no pressure.
Whatever comes of this can only be good
And if for only a while?
I'll take it.

Bob,
This is absolutely fantastic. I am so pleased to hear of what you've done!
I would love to come on over to one of your meet ups, but as you know there is the small matter of 5,000 miles and the Atlantic between us.
Could you put me down as an honorary member of the group?
I wish you success in this venture.
All the best.
Alec.

It matters not ones age to learn. All people can learn from anyone. Older isn't wiser and younger isn't smarter with this fact means that yes i could learn something from old people, but they could learn something from me as well.
Live Long & Prosper!
