    Cool. Like the idea of using sharpened pvc pipe for cutting the round holes for eyepieces in the foam.

    Default Re: Accessory storage

    I spent $154.95 on a #1600 pelican case to keep my accessory equipment in. I actually have 6 Pelican cases for my equipment. I have a 1460, two 1600s, a 1620, and two iM2450s. I also have some JMI cases and some padded carry bags for my tripods. I carry over $5000 worth of equipment in one #1600 Pelican case. I can afford them and consider them cheap insurance for the protection of my equipment. I take my equipment on the road quite a lot, (2 to 3 trips a month) and having to pack them in and out of the car so much warrants the extra protection. I some times travel with as many as 5 scopes and all the support equipment that goes with them and camping equipment too. Just throwing my 'stuff' in an old tool box or duffle bag just doesn't work for me.

    @rtlrp12
    I really like your setup. I only have one scope at the moment and have not gome on any trips with it, yet. I only have a handful of eyepieces and filters so I can get away with a having less storage. My goal is to imitate what you have and I think I have done a fairly decent job so far, I have a few finishing touches to put on it though. Thanks for sharing.

    My mum showed me the pelican cases a couple of weeks ago - she's always on the look out for cool stuff and she thought these would be really useful for storing all my astronomy accessories in. I haven't bought one yet and as the moment am keeping all my EP's and filters in a cardboard box lined with bubblewrap. Not the best protection but so far I haven't traveled with my scope as I have a decent dark sky here so I just make sure I handle everything with the utmost care and don't drop anything! I do intend on either making something or buying something soon though, just for extra piece of mind

    I actually use a rather heavy-duty double-pistol case from my collection of gun cases. Fairly dense foam. Holds eyepieces. filters, etc with NO moving around. It's probably heaver-duty than necessary, and a good plastic tool-box from Wally World (or an old brief-case, ala JamesandMyOpinon) and some decent foam would be about 1/2 the cost, but I had the gun case laying around.

    I actually do not remember the brand or name but it was not a very dense foam.

    I bought a pluck foam gun case at Bass Pro-shop and then I saw the comment about the Harbor Freight case and went and got one of those today for half the price and almost just as good. A tad bit difference on quality BUT I can get two for one from HF. If you have a HF near you I would consider that a good purchase. They were on sale now for $27 here today.

    Thanks Mike: I don't have a HF handy, but went online and found a nice case (no foam). Ordered two and they came in today, and the quality is quite decent for $58 delivered (for two). They are approx 18 X 13 X 6 and between the two of them I should be able to store my cameras, all ep's, filters, diagonals, cords, cables, etc., and have some room left! Now to track down some pluck-foam

    I use a handgun and accessory case from Lebarons Sporting goods in Markham Ontario.($15)
    As I revamped it several times with additional EP purchases. I think it's time to start again with another .
    My current one is just slightly butchered! LOL. For my digital level,Telrad, finder etc I have a nice hard case my 4 1/2"
    grinder came in (free) . It works great.
