    Unhappy ETX125 AT going berserk!

    Hello,
I just got my etx 125 at. Its powered via batteries and the motors are not trained. I follow the polar alignment guidelines step by step. Still i can not achieve the perfect go to. After slewing to a few objects (40 minutes into the session) the telescope starts going crazy and slews to unassigned random directions and will not stop unless i turn it off and restart it. Can you help me find the reason behind these problems please? Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm not sure about "Still i can not achieve the perfect go to.." without more detail. You must calibrate motors and train the drives on some scopes. On others just train the drives. That takes out backlash.

The 40 minutes sounds like the batteries are getting cold. Use a gel cell and make your own cable. Use male and female cigarette lighter connections. You can get them at any auto supply store.

Yes I agree-- sounds like you need to --

RESET the hand controller to factory default

Calibrate motors using the same power supply you will use at night

    Train the drives

    Re-enter Time, Date and site

Make sure your power supply is GOOD! Just go and buy a 12 volt car starter battery pack at Wal Mart for about $39. Charge it up fully.

PS--- calibrate motors BEFORE you train the drives.

Inaddition to all the above, don't use rechargeable NiMH AA batteries.
