Default Homemade collimation tool... The extinction of 35mm

My Zhummell Z8 arrived today but the laser collomiter was DOA. So I thought, no big deal. I'll just make one out of a 35mm film canister.

Well, I didn't realize just what a tall order that might be. I worked for a one hour photo lab for 10 years. Those canisters flowed into and out of my hands for years. I probably saw enough to fill the Atlantic ocean. Fast forward a few years, and poof...... Extinction.

I went to 6 stores that print photos in a 20 mile radius of my home. Of those 6, only 2 still process 35mm film. Neither had a single black film canister. Turns out Kodak switched to clear, recycled film canisters a few years back.

Luckily I have a daughter who owns black nail polish. Add some electrical tape and wha-lah! A homemade collimation cap.

Now I just need to wait for the nail polish to dry so that I can test it out.

Boy how the times have changed so quickly.

Yeah. I used to have a darkroom. That was so much fun--watching the picture 'snap to' in the developer. The times...they do change!!

Did you check the battery? May have been left on during shipping as its sw is just a turn screw. Just go get a new batt at the drug store.

I did. Unfortunately new batteries (tried 2 sets) did not fix the problem.
