Default Bluetooth Connection between an Android phone/tablet and a Shoestring Astronomy BT2EQ

It's a common question, how do I connect my smartphone/tablet to my mount? For this article, I am covering connecting an Android device over Bluetooth to a

NEQ-6 Pro mount. As I don't use Apple devices, I can't help with the equivalent steps on those devices. Additionally, I do have a Celestron CG-5 ASGT mount, but have not looked into replicating this on that mount. I have seen a bluetooth serial adapter from USConverters.com which should work.

I don't have any business interests, etc. in any product/brand mentioned in this article.

    Thanks for sharing.
I use the BT2EQ6 adapter on my NEQ6. Saves an extra cable and worked fine. But yeah...Could be a pain to setup without help, especially those that are not technically minded.
But once working it makes life so much easier

Thanks Dave. I had planned on writing up the steps earlier and finally got around to it. Now I need to write up how to do the alignment piece with Sky Safari 5 Pro. It shouldn't be too difficult.

Thank you for the post - the SynScan controller is ok but I've wanted to "loose" the cable for since the 2nd time I used it.
I have the AZ-EQ6-GT - is it correct that I would need the BT2EQ5 for the RJ-45 port and follow the instructions the same?

    Thanks Again!

SKE, I think that is the right one, a quick search of the net turns up a few reports that it works. If in doubt, I would send Shoestring Astronomy a note to confirm.

It looks correct, but I did send Shoestring an email JIC. I had been looking at the Simulation Curriculum Sky BT unit - but to connect it would require an additional serial cable (another $30 usd) for a package price of $100. The Shoestring at $50 (shipping included) is a much cleaner and "cost effective" option.
