    Default First astrophotograph - Moon

This is my first astrophotograph, well my first half way successful astrophotograph anyway. I took this using my little Astromaster 114 with a 32mm EP, 2 moon filters threaded together because its so bright. My camera is an old Canon Powershot A400 that I’ve had for years. I had to hold and snap the picture myself because I have no way of attaching it to my EP. I would eventually like to get into astrophotography, when I can afford some good equipment. I hope to do some more like this when the moon is in other stages, but I doubt this would work with anything else besides the moon. I took the photo through PS to sharpen it up and get rid of some unwanted coloration around the moon. I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Not too bad at all. A little tip, try next time just using the automatic settings on the camera with no filters on the eyepiece. You should be able to bring out more detail and a sharper focus this way.

Thanks for the tip Jay, I’ll have to try that next time. My main goal was to capture Tycho, one of the prominent craters on the moon. I was just lucky to get my telescope out, the weather and cloud cover have been awful here. Probably won’t be able to go out until next week.

Looks pretty decent I would say, Sally.

Yeah, pointing the camera at the eyepiece isnt so easy--which is why I snap about 20 shots and then pick the best one later when I can actually see how it turned out.

Nice job. Its a thrill to get the first shot done.
A crescent Moon or slightly less is good for getting detail with the set up you have. Plus it will be a lot less brighter to deal with.
Good job, I love Moon images. Thanks for sharing your work.

thats an amazing shot considering its one of your firsts, you used the Canon Powershot A400, and no t-adapter!
