Default Bringing out the faint dust

Whats the secret to bringing out the beautiful, faint, brown dust that is visible in some people images?
Is it just being able to image at a dark site? Or is it having very low thermal noise? Dithering?

While im sure the answer is probably "all of the above", im curious as to what has the GREATEST impact on bringing out the faint brown dust.

Long subs and plenty of them. Dark skies will help as will a very good knowledge of post processing.

Is there a different processing flow in startools for the faint dust?

Not really but you have to be comfortable in your ability to find the right balance between too much and not enough. Regardless though, you still need the time on target to pull it off successfully.

In my best dusty photo, the key was to stop! I was milking it for the dust, making subtle changes to the contrast in small increments. As soon as I hit "Wow that looks good!", I knew it was time to stop and hit Save.

I could have carried on with the adjustments, trying to make it better still. Maybe I would have improved it further or maybe I would have made it worse. I suspect the latter, because I think I was pretty close to the limit of what the data would support.

And that, really is the key. You have to have good data. So, like others have said, there is no substitute for time on target.
