Default Other software than ASCOM 6.3 to guide telescope?

    Hello

I've been trying to install Ascom 6.3 to start taking some pics, but it will not install properly (on a new laptop...)

I'm not a computergeek, so was wondering if there are other ways than this to make my ZWO 120 mm run?

    Grtz

What problems are you having Grtz? Chances are something is blocking the install on your Laptop - Its worth the effort to get ASCOM working in the long run.

Give us a run down on what the problem is, good chance some one has experienced this and knows how to fix.

If its a new laptop... Did you just power it on and get to work or is it something where you have installed all the software yourself? If its striaght out the box, these things tend to have so much software installed (advertising and "bloatware" & such like to make you buy stuff you dont really need).

Until we know more - perhaps try the following:

Shutdown/disable any firewalls & antivirus and try to re-install ASCOM
Look in control panel/programs & features and uninstall anything which you dont need.
If you know a bit about PC's - do a right click on the taskbar and select task manager - select the startup tab and disable anything that you know you dont need (this is for Windows 10 BTW).

I recall at some point the Microsfot .net framework caused me a problem. Cant remember the exact circumstances, but i think i followed some of this on the ASCOM site and got things working

let us know a bit more and i'm sure we'll get you working.

When you go to install ASCOM, right click on "ASCOMPlatform63.exe" and select "Run as Administrator".

To simply Connect to your ASI120MM, or even to use it for AutoGuiding, you do not actually NEED any components of the ASCOM Platform.

For AutoGuiding, most of us will choose PHD2 v2.6 (www.openphdguiding.org), which has Native Drivers for all of the ZWO ASI Cameras.

You can also use SharpCap v2 without ASCOM, if you simply wish to view what the ASI120MM sees...

CGEM (w HyperTune and ADM bling) / 2x CG5-AGT / Forest of Tripod legs / Star Adventurer / Orion EQ-G

Is that Ascom working or one of the other suggestions? I'm sure it would assist others if you can explain what you have done to get things working.

    Hey Elfreko,

Glad to hear you go things working. As for ASCOM, if you still need assistance, it is worth getting them to work as they provide a range of flexible options in software.

That being the case, it might then be worth perhaps setting out what the issue is as described above.

    Pete
