Default Transits - What does it mean?

    Evening all,

I was reading the description about an image I was looking at and it mentions about transits. Here is rpthe extract:

"It’s getting to be the prime season for shooting NGC 2359 as it is now transiting at about 2:30 a.m., which gives you a couple of hours before transit to start shooting it, and a couple of hours after transit to continue shooting before the start of astronomical twilight."

What is he referring to when he says it's transiting?

    Cheers
    Aidan

    Hi Aidan,

It means transiting the Meridian. Viz. passing from east of the meridian to west of the meridian.

    Cheers,

Part of that information, although not spelled out, is telling you that for a Northern latitudes observer, this is the time when the object will be highest above the southern horizon for best observing/imaging.
