Lightbulb Astronomyforum.net beginner Astrophotography award information & hall of fame!

Announcing the Astronomyforum.net beginner Astrophotography award!

Our membership to the forum grows day by day. Many of these new members are expressing an interest in trying Astrophotography as part of the hobby. Anyone who has experienced this knows that the cost of purchasing the equipment and software to process images can put a strain on the budget.

A while back AF.net hosted a contest called the Astrophotography Image processing Challenge. It was very popular however it was extremely difficult to administer. Ivo from StarTools was very generous in donating his StarTools software as a prize for the Challenge.

The moderator team has been trying to come up with a way to help the new AP’rs make improvements in their images and help to keep them striving for better images.

    So,

What we have come up with is a monthly “award” to a new AP’r that is expressing an interest and starting to ‘dabble’ with AP. There are no rules or entry requirements for this, it’s just going to be a simple process.

The moderator team will be looking for members (they can be old or new members) that are starting out in Astrophotography. We aren’t necessarily looking for images being posted, it’s just those who are asking questions and have expressed the interest.

Once a month the moderator team will select a member to be given a free copy of StarTools.

StarTools is a new image post-processing application, designed from the ground up for astronomical images.
Its novel non-linear processing engine does away with the limitations traditional astrophotography packages impose, while leap frogging such packages in areas of signal preservation and noise reduction.

We want to thank Ivo (member irwjager) for his generous donation to our effort to assist and grow our members participation to this portion of the Astronomy hobby.
