Default CLS-CCD filter on a full spectrum camera

Is there a focusing issue when using an Astronomik CLS-CCD filter with a full spectrum camera? I was going to buy the clip-in filter to use on my full spec T4i with my refractor and SCT but I read something that someone wrote in a Yahoo group saying that the blue and green focused at a different spot than the red focused. He might of been talking about using the filter on a lens, not a scope, but it was unclear.

So would I have an issue getting the R to focus with the G and B?
Is the CLS-CCD filter worth the $170?

The Clip-In Filters are nice when your only usage is Prime Focus behind a Scope, but given that they limit you to only EF (not EF-S) Lenses you may still find a desire to purchase an IR Filter for daytime use.

Never had a problem like that with focus when I used one. As to value for money... Astronomik are the mjor producer of clip filters. Is it the BEST LP filter? ... No that is the IDAS LPS D1 but you cant get that in clip form. THe CLS-CCD is a good second best.

I will chime in support of the Astronomik clip filter. Have had no focus issues with my 60d. Just a reminder, be sure to create custom white balance when using the filter. Will save you time post-processing. If you need any tips on this let me know.

I thought when you're shooting raw, white balance doesn't effect the photo?

Well I'm ready to buy but I couldn't figure out where a 2" filter would go in the imaging train. I was trying to figure out that so I could buy the IDAS LPS D1.

Correct - it doesn't alter the image data at all. What is CAN do is tell the post-processing software to adjust the RGB levels when the RAW file is opened.

Pretty much all software these days gives the option to ignore or apply the in-camera WB recorded in the RAW file. Most AP software is always set to ignore WB because there are far more sophisticated techniques available for manipulating the RGB colour space in software...

Most of the time I just use Picasa to view the photos and PixInsight to edit, maybe Photoshop too.

It'd be nice if WB was applied to raw photos in Picasa so when I'm looking through them for any that should be deleted before stacking them, I could see the nebulosity better because now I pretty much can only see the stars and the rest of the photo is red. Do you know if Picasa would apply WB to raw photos? I made a custom WB for my full spectrum camera but I never use it...

Can WB be applied to raw photos when I'm capturing them in BYEOS?

Oh ya, and I ordered the CLS-CCD clip in filter last night.

The WB is always recorded - there is no way not to on a DSLR. I would imagine Picassa would respond to it... (Pi of course is normally set to ignore it)

In most cases, the Nosepiece end of the T-Adapter or the Field Flattener or the Coma Corrector has 2in Filter Threads.
If you are using a standard T-Adapter and SCT Visual Back, you can usually place a 2in Filter on your T-Adapter.
If you are using a SCT-to-T-Thread Back then you are out-of-luck for that placement...
