So here is a very quick stack and process in PixInsight.
I simply did a gradient removal (DBE), background neutralisation and colour calibration then a simple stretch so you can see the result.

So.... the "red" is no longer dominant, but this image is dominated by the core of M31 which is very exposed compared to the rest of the image. Ideally some shorter images at a lower ISO would have helped balance out the core level a bit.

At this point you can take the colour balance any which way you like. I've left it fairly neutral.

Just to reiterate... no PS-style curves or levels were used (except for the single level stretch of course).

I'm Sure Ivo will do a full job on it with Star Tools when he gets time...

Incidentally Phil, your image has natural looking blue tones and yellow/brown tints for the core that you were looking for in the other thread. I attached a WLPG edited image using just the leftmost histogram slider and increasing the shadows and contrast, no color correction. This was overdone but just emphasizes the colors. Great data by the way.

Phil- The color looks good, was it still all red when you were done stacking? It's good to see how my data can look after doing little to it, now I just need to learn and practice. How did the flats look, was the exposure correct?

Cam- What is WLPG? I like how you can see details in the core. Its interesting seeing the colors hiding under the red.

Thanks for taking the time guys.

Yes the red was there after stacking... Stacking wont touch the colour balance. I'll check the flats tomorrow...

As you can see, the colour balance really isnt a problem, you just need the tools to manipulate it.

Please bear in mind I've done barely any processing to your image other than recalibrate the RGB levels. Normally on M31 there are a lot more steps to achieve a finished image. Ultimately your image is limited by the field of view... Thecharacteristic blue spiral arms arent really captured.. You need a shorter focal length for this target... Or a mosiac...

Phil- I know I'm zoomed in too much. I got the focal reducer, just haven't had the chance to use it yet. Plus I got the correct T-adapter so the stars should be round all the way to the edge. But I don't have an IR filter, will that be an issue with my modified T4i and the reducer?

Jamee - your flats are mechnically good but rather low in level (not so low that they don't work but they could do with being brighter).

A good guide is to use DSLR AV mode with +2EV exposure compensation (or if using software such as BYE to control the camera, get the greyscale histogram about 65-70% across towards the right).

Personally I always use a UV/IR cut filter with my full-spectrum camera on both of my scopes. The EDGE has refractive elements in it that do the flattening so I would suggest you try one.

Ya, I use BYEOS so I can't shoot flats in AV mode. Are you saying that in BYEOS I use the luminance histogram instead of the RBG histogram and expose my flats to 65-70% right?

I know you've answered this question before but what is a good EOS clip in IR-UV filter that costs around $100? With this new computer I bought and unexpected bills showing up I need to chill out on my spending for a couple weeks. Plus AP software is near the top of my wish list...

Yes - BYE at 70% on the luminance histogram... flats are all about luminance. Check with the RGB histogram that no colour is below 50% when luminance is ~70%... filters and your light source can affect this.

UV/IR clip filter - Astronomik - maybe over budget but worth it. I'd wait until you can afford it.
