Default Caught Jupiter accompanying the Moon with the spotting scope! :-)

    Hi all,

I,m just in the door from work and the view on my right the whole way home
    was just spectacular!
The rising Moon as i left the base 20 miles from home and the giant Jupiter following it.
As i came to my last junction to turn left, glanced to my right for on-coming traffic and there was the sight
    of the two-- Awesome!!!

Arrived home and whipped the camera along with the spotting scope
and set up out in the bach garden.

Grabbed one of the two together with the camera,
the second i snapped of the Moon through the ep.

    Hope you enjoy!

    Smiling Steve,...100_2551.JPG100_2552.JPG

Nice! Anxiously awaiting tonight's conjunction in the eastern US. From what I've read, next month's (on Christmas night) will be even better.

Did I also hear that the southern hemisphere had an occultation?

    Hi Tony,

Yes i agree, Christmas night will be spectacular!
A huge bright gibbous Moon accompanying Jupiter and the great Orion below the two to the left.
Will be a sight not to be missed!

Looking in on Stellarium and forwarding to midnight on the 25th, Jupiter will be directly above the moon!-- a classic pic oppotunity! :-)

    So looking forward to it!

    Thanks for the reminder Tony!

    Clear skies to you!

    Hi there Bill.

Was a nice sight to catch!
Pity the camera i have isn,t a bit more catching though! :-)

    Hey Bill

How,s your skies out there tonight?
Nothing but heavy freezing fog out there- below the zero now
Afraid to put out the 8"er, it,ll be fogged up in no time!

Might chance it for a glance at Jupiter though.
    It,s still visible!

Still, there,s tomorrow morn to look 4ward to with the mighty Saturn and the bright Venus rising in the East!

    Cheers,

    Steve,..

Hello Steve. I went outside last night too, and saw the beatiful pair. I ran in and got my camera. It is an older DSLR, without interchangeable lenses, auto focus, and no shutter control. I put on the snap in telephoto lens, and went outside. This was a spur of the minute idea, so I didn't let the camera acclamate to the cooler outside temperature first. I made several attempts to get the "pair", but everything started dewing up, so I gave up. Your pictures however, are very nice. Thanks for sharing them with us. Best regards,
    - Marshall
