    Default Meade LX80 ASCOM drivers?

Does anyone know if an LX80 can be controlled via EQMOD and Stellarium? I have heard talk, however as there is no specific driver that I have been able to find, I wonder if other people are just using LX200 driver support. Any ideas or suggestions?

No official ASCOM driver for the LX80. Folks are using the Classic Meade LX200 driver with success. Here's the link.

Scroll down the list and look for: Meade LX200 Classic and Autostar #494, #495, and #497 (combined telescope/focuser, 5.0.3)

Thanks a million. I see you have the LX80, have you used it for any AP purposes?

Default Re: Meade LX80 ASCOM drivers?

Glad to help! I haven't done any AP. Actually, I'm not much of a photographer at all, astro, or otherwise. Unfortunately, the verdict is still out on this mount when it comes to AP.

A few folks on the other forum have been doing some fairly extensive AP testing, with not very good results. It seems the worm assembly is not up to the task, or at least that's the case with *their* mounts. There really needs to be many more AP testers to get a better sampling.

Also, Meade posted to that thread that they were working to fix two issues with the firmware, PEC training and Guiding with their Envisage software. This was on 8/10/2012. There was an initial RA tracking bug in the firmware of the first shipments - just make sure you have vA3S2 - if you just purchased yours recently, it will probably be upgraded already.

The equipment those testers are using include the Meade 505 cable (to connect the handbox to a serial connection on a PC). If no serial port is available on the PC, you'll need an additional USB-to-Serial cable. Software-wise, they are using PHD Guiding.

Sorry I can't offer more. I've mostly just been following that thread on the other forum. It might help for you to check it out, but it's many pages long.

As a visual-only mount, my LX80 has more than fulfilled my expectations. But, for AP, it is not yet living up to its advertised specs.
