Default About the pull the trigger on AP rig

So I am about ready to pull the trigger on my AP rig.

Here is what I have decided upon:
    Orion Atlas EQ-G mount
Orion ED80T CF Triplet APO Refractor
    Orion Magnificient Mini AutoGuider Package

This is a hefty purchase and I am leaning towards not ordering a field flattener at this time. How "bad" will my images be without a field flattener using this setup?

Will distortion be limited to the edges which could be cropped out?

Any other advice/comments on what I can expect with this setup?

    Thanks,

    Greg.

Think you chose quite well!! You will be very happy with that package!

You will be able to crop edges out.

I forgot to mention that I will be imaging with my new Canon T2i 550D (unmodded). I currently have a 1.25" T-Adapter.

You will want to shoot with the full 2" opening with the T2i. Same setup I am using 80mm, T2i. This will reduce vignetting. Adapter is about $40 maybe less.

Wow Greg that is a dream package:

    Orion Atlas EQ-G mount
Orion ED80T CF Triplet APO Refractor
    Orion Magnificient Mini AutoGuider Package

Can't wait until you unbox those, can you post some photos and a first light?

personally i would not worry about a field flattener one bit - just get it and enjoy! Worry about perfection later

Thanks Jeff. Do you have a link for that adapter? I can't seem to find one on the Orion site.

    Would either of these work?
Hotech 2" SCA T-Adapter w/ Self Centering Adapter - OPT Telescopes
    TeleVue 2" Camera Adapter - ACM-2000 - OPT Telescopes

If so, is there any reason to prefer one over the other (they are the same price)?

I recently picked up an ES102 apo and purchased the HT-SCA-TA2 HoTech 2" SCA T-Adapter & CE-93419 Celestron T-Ring for Canon EOS SLR or DSLR Cameras. Both fit fine and the camera sits snug on the end of the refractor. I havent tried it at night yet but I did try it on some tree's about 2 miles away and it did a good job filling the frame.

    Argggh!

It looks like first light is gonna have to wait.

The ED80T arrived BUSTED! The tube is in two pieces. You can see where the tiny screws that hold it together have ripped through the thin body wall. The screws can also be seen lying sideways inside. Also, the screw to hold the 1.25" adapter in place is bent almost 45 degrees. I think this scope saw some rough transit.

Hopefully I can get OPT Corp. to express ship a replacement and a return label for this scope.

    Greg,

Sorry to hear about the shipping damage! I am sure the folks at OPT will work diligently to resolve the issue, I have always had great service from them. Wow, looks like shipping container was handled like a football, UPS?
