Can the Celestron CG5 GOTO mount be a substitute for the Orion SkyView PRO mount?

I'm trying to stay below 900 for the scope and mount as I still need to get a decent cam and other equipment. Since I'm just beginning I was looking a the nexstar 6se except as far as I can tell its not usable for long time exposure AP.
How about this instead.....The Cubeâ„¢-A-R80 refractor telescope ?

The CUBE is also an ALT-AZ mount which is the main count agains thte 6SE so for AP there is little difference the R80 will so larger DSOs nicely.. but nto smaller ones and will not give you the best views visually.

a 5SE would put give you a beginners wedge to start working with a polar alignment.. as the tripod has a light weight wedge built in.

I am looking at the Orion set-up and trying to translate it into what is available in the UK.

It looks like a Skywatcher 200P or PDS with an EQ mount, but is this the EQ5 or HEQ5?

Also I appreciate that all these lovely GoTo systems are nice but they also add about £300.00 ($400.00+) to the bottom line of the kit. Other than set-up what's the issue with using a Polar Alignment scope and a single or twin axis motor for those of us on tighter budgets.

For AP you want the HEQ5 Pro Synscan (full goto) - £800 or HEQ5 Syntrek - £700. The latter does not come with the handset but can be fully (and much better!) controlled by a PC and and EQDIR interface (£50)

Really at the moment the HEQ5 Pro SynScan is a relative bargain, especially as the handset is expensive if bought later (£150)

The HEQ5 was 18Kg load capacity (twice that of the EQ5) which is good for AP.
These mounts will easily handle a 6-11 inch SCT or 120mm refractor + guide scope/camera+imaging camera. They could also handle an F4/5 Newtonian astrograph like the 200P, but really you may need to step up to an NEQ6 Pro for one of those (these large scope are prone to wind/breeze issues).

I'm not sure where you get the £300 from - you may not be comparing apples with apples, especially as Skywatcher naming is very confusing.

    Basically:
£500 - EQ5 = the BARE minimum for AP, small, light scopes only, exposure times will be limited
£750 - HEQ5 = fine for AP, longish exposures are relatively easy with medium size scopes, 2-3 minutes unguided, 10 minutes+ guided
£1,000 - NEQ6 = can handle pretty much anything (but they are very big and very heavy!)

CGEM DX 11" is a great choice for long term.

problem is lack of support since many versions have cogging problem in the DEC axis
