Default Need a little help with a astro/photo project

Ok, its getting down to crunch time and I have to make some decisions in the next few weeks.

We are going to spend the summer in the Grand Teton /Yellowstone Park area doing volunteer work for the US Park Service. They have an astronomy outreach program for guests in the location where we will be, and since I intend to bring my little Meade LS-6 with me, I have been invited to participate in the program.

The park has a larger scope (not sure what kind) that they use, so I thought I might try setting mine up with a camera and project the images on a laptop/TV so folks won't have to be coming to the EP, adjusting their ball caps, the focus, and all the other stuff...just for a short peek.

A Samsung SDL 435, or SCB 2000 camera has been suggested as a good camera that will be easy to set up and operate (My learning curve is a pretty flat line sometimes). I am writing this for input from anyone who may have experience with these cameras in this type of application. I have lots of questions. Among them are:

If the output from the camera is run through a “Capture Device” and into a laptop, then that output to a TV, will I actually be able to control the camera through the laptop from a remote site (less than 50 Ft.) or will I have to control the camera by the buttons on the back?

The cameras come in several models, one of which is a 12VDC/24VAC model. Both seem to use the same power connectors on the back of the camera, so I guess the camera knows the difference?

Any suggestions/input anyone wants to make will be greatly appreciated. I know I am kinda jumping into this thing at the middle instead of starting at the bottom and working my way up, but its something I want to do, and can afford. I know if it does not work I can sell the camera and recoup at least some of my expenses, but I don't want to have to do that.

Fire away, I'm all ears... and thanks in advance.

    Bill,

I can't help you with your project but did want to wish you luck with it. I suspect that few people have done what you are trying to do; thus, it may be difficult to get any help. You may have to bite the bullet and just "do it" and see what happens.

    Sxianis,

Already made that decision.....Camera gets ordered next week, and oldest son (electronic guru) all set to assist with techie details.

Its just too good an opportunity to pass up.

    Thanks for the encouragement.
