    Default New AP Scope Astro-Tech 6" f/9 Ritchey-Chrétien astrograph

Finally after being on back order for a while my new AP Scope a Astro-Tech 6" f/9 Ritchey-Chrétien astrograph is on it's way. Can't wait for it to get here this week and and give it a try this weekend. I've seen some nice pictures from these scopes and the one I seen in person seem to be a great scope. We'll see this week, then again I really couldn't go to wrong for the price. Now just need some clear skies this weekend.

    Clear Skies,
    Tom.

So far so good. I finally got it out and used it only for visual viewing. Provided great views of m81&m82 and m51 and Saturn was beautiful thru it.
All the views thru it were very sharp and bright the focuser on it works great. So far I'm very happy with it. It's really designed for imaging but it will be next week before I try any imaging with it. Based on my limited use I'm sure I'll be happy with the pictures I get with it. For 299.00 I feel it's a fantastic scope, the focuser worth most of that. I purchased it from Astronomy Technologies, I believe they're on back order again at this time.

    Thanks and clear skies,
    Tom.

That was a great price. Expected it to be a h of a lot higher.

Good to read that it is also good for visual use.

Got my first telescope a few hours ago and I am looking at others.

I am considering one of these as an upgrade. I currently have a Saxon 804 mounted on a Skywatcher EQ3-2 mount. The reason that I am leaning this way is that the 6" RC seems to better value than other OTA alternatives especially considering that my interest is biased towards imaging - but I can't afford to got out and dump thousands of dollars on a mount and optics. I am what is best described as a budget minded (constrained) astronomer.

I would be interested to know what the astronomy community feel about these. There doesn't seem to be a lot of feedback apart from first impressions or people having seen one in the back seat of a car! Opinions from owners or those who have bought and regretted are what I am looking for.

    Cheers,
    Hunlon

Grats Tom, you're going to love the RC...they don't do too badly visually either. Just double check the collimation, mine was out a tad and required a tweak, since then it's been fine.

Here's an image taken with the 10" RC..no crop: Messier 1 Remix | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
I love the 'little' star spikes produced by that big secondary obstruction...

    Good luck and clear skies,
