Had first light with the sigma APO lens, took some 30 second subs of the Pleiades and stacked them.

Thanks to all that have participated, this thread seems to have covered the topic of Minimalist Astrophotography from Alpha to Omega. About the only thing missing is astrophotography of deep space using a $100 video camera. Video astronomy has its own forum and is really a different animal so to speak and deserves its own place under the nigth sky.

This thread is being closed. If someone has a new posting on the topic, please start your own thread.

Again, thanks a bunch for all that participated.

EDIT: Just to verify that innovation never ends when I thought all was said that could be said, along comes someone to prove me wrong.

Here is a link to perhaps the most capable and minimalist approach yet: http://www.astronomyforum.net/astron...pe-images.html

As a fitting end to this thread, one of our members put together a complete $400 minimalist astrophotography kit suitable for imaging DSOs (eq mount with tracking motor, camera, and accessories).

Here is the link to her thread explaining what she did and showing some very good results. A $400 budget can get you some great results!
