Default S&T Pocket Sky Altas Deficiencies

I paid full retail for my new pocket Altas and I think it would be
appropriate for S&T to replace my defective copy with one that is not
    defective, free of charge.

This is coming from and individual who has spent thousands of dollars
on books from S&T and has renewed his S&T subscription (with a blind
eye towards the changes that are taking place with that rag) through
the year 2009. I also subscribe to the Nnew Nigh tSky Mag and purchase
    Sky Watch every year.

I think I deserve to receive the product that I paid for, and if the
original was defective, it should have a warranty of some sort, like
multitudinous products sold in our economy, and be replaced with a
properly corrected version, not some paste on PDF file that I am
admittedly too stupid and indignant ( as well as short of time) to
download in order to patch my new sky atlas together in the way that I
originaly thought it would arrive, after all the advertising hype about
    how great it was.

I don't accept compassion towards the screw ups of poor proof reading /
editing work as an excuse to somehow accept a defective piece of work
    in a free enterprise society.

I certainly did not accept such blatant errors of omission in ANY of
the volumness other Atlases that I have collected. Nor do I expect
customers of mine in my business to accept "bandaid" solutions to THEIR
valid complaints with my business, I instead make good on my promise to
deliver whatever it is that I claim to advertise.

In the meantime I will continue to prefer to use my superior Skiff /
Tiron Bright Star Atlas available through William-Bell, a truly
superior Mag 6 atlas, untilt S&T realizes the error of their ways, and
how it is perceived by some of us as poor customer service by
attempting to pawn off defective merchandise without promising to make
ir right, comes to their senses and replaces my defective copy with a
    duly corrected one.

S&T: Make me whole again, please send me what I paid for.

    My 2 cents

Yet people happily buy buggy software that then requires you to
download patches to fix it. Why do you expect books to be any
different? At least they are offering a patch, unlike so many other
publishers that print errata on their websites and then wait for the
next edition to make the corrections.

You really need to get out more (and no, not to look through
telescopes). The errors are quite minor compared to other publications.

Or just sell yours on eBay and wait for the 2nd edition.

Although I also think the flaws should have been caught before the
copies were sent out (they really are not hard to see), and I would be
very pleased indeed if they were to send out replacement copies, I'm
not holding my breath. I don't think they are legally or morally
obligated to send out replacement copies, nor are they made of money to
the point where they can afford to do that. I do think they are legally
and morally obligated to return your money if you return your copy, and
if you are that displeased with the PSA, that's what I would do, if I
    were in your position.

PSA is not a mag-6 atlas. It is a mag-7 atlas. There are almost four
times as many stars in PSA as there are in BSA. They are in different
    leagues.

In the end, my position is, I'm pretty annoyed at the flaw (and at how
long defective copies have been allowed to remain in the market), but
I'm not going to get mad at the atlas, nor at Sky and Telescope. This
is, after all, their first atlas produced in house. I'm merely going
to file this in my collection of "Sky and Telescope quality assessments"
    and move on.

There are three squares, about 1 cm on a side each, where the black-and-
white layer is missing from the maps. Two are on the Corona Borealis/
Bootes map, and one is on the Virgo cluster close-up. Unfortunately,
all three obscure at least one item of interest: one blocks out R CrB,
one blocks out epsilon Boo, and the last blocks out rho Vir.
