Default cheap, but decent lens for security camera with C/CS mount?

Just picked up a security camera that has a C/CS mount for a lens of some
type. Obviously, I have a C to 1.25" adapter coming, but what sort of cheap
lens could I couple to this camera and what adapter could I use? I'm not
really looking for anything elaborate- just similar to what my Toucam used
to do with its screw in lens.

    Suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Clay

    Hey Pidge:

There are two ways to go. You can use a C mount lens from Supercircuits
(which should do fine...)....<http://www.supercircuits.com>. Quite a
few folks I've known have had very good luck imaging constellations,
satellite passes, etc. with the Supercircuits lenses in combination
with a PC23C camera or similar.

....or...if that does not appeal, adapt a 35mm camera lens.

If you do that, you'll need a couple of addional items (as well as a
lens). You'll need a C to T adapter and an adapter/extender for your
particular lens (while you can at least partially screw a Pentax
screwmount lens onto a T adapter, it will usually be too close to the
camera's focal plane to come to focus. You should be able to get the
    adapters you need from <http://www.astrovid.com>

As for which lenses? The abovementioned Pentax screwmount lenses (or
perhaps their K mount cousins) should be very cheap and plentiful in
the used case at your local camera store (i.e. a camera store that
    caters to pros).

It's also possible that you can find some C mount lenses...I picked up
a nice Sony branded zoom lens at a camera store some time back.

    Hi Rod,

Thanks for the information. I probably will go with the one of the ones at
the supercircuits website. I have a question though. At that site, they
list several different types from about 6mm up to 25mm. It looks like that,
according to their on-line calculator, the smaller mm lenses provide higher
magnifications and therefore narrower fov: is that correct? Since I'm
looking to capture the sky and also for non-astro uses, probably the 25mm
    lens would be best(?).

    Thanks for further input,
    CP

No...exactly the opposite. The shorter the f/l of a lens, the wider the
field and the lower the "magnification."
