    Default Orion 80ED for imaging....

For those who have any question about the abilities of the Orion 80ED as an
imager with a DSLR... here's an example of what can be done by a novice with
a little experience at polar alignment, and use of the Stiletto IV focusing
    tool:

    Orion 80ED on Losmandy G-11
    Canon 300D unmodified
    10 x 60 seconds ISO 800 unguided

This was taken under a full moon. Note that there is vignetting in the
image. I'm not skilled enough yet to create and apply flats correctly to get
rid of that (been working on it all weekend...).

Also, IMO, the G-11 is complete overkill for the 80ED/300D. A Vixen GP mount
could easily handle this job with this scope and camera, given the 60 second
    exposures.

    Enjoy!

Not to mention a cheap CG-5

For the sake of argument....IME, the Vixen GP tracked well for 60 seconds
out of the box. The CG-5 was a little less civilized without re-work. But in
    essence, I agree with you.

With a good DSLR the CG5 can easily allow for way more than 60 secs
