    Default C-8 and 2-inch eyepieces?

A friend just bought an old C-8 and would like to use his 2-inch eyepieces
if possible. The only SCT I'm familiar with is a C-14. Is there a visual
back that fits the C-8 that allows for using a 2" diagonal?

TeleVue, Mercury Support Systems, probably ScopeStuff, and AP all have them.

Get the shortest one you can find. I have the 2" long model from TeleVue.
While it works well, I'm not sure what the advantage is to that length. I'm
left wondering if the short version of the visual back, would allow me to
use my 35mm Panoptic with the F6.3 R/C.

You can buy from Lumicon a 2" tail piece that screws onto the rear
port of a C8. I use one. There also are 2" diagonals that screw onto
    the rear port.

Depends on your definition of "use". The mirror support tube is too
small to give full FOV with wide field lens combinations. I am not
sure at what FL vignetting becomes objectionable, the SCT gurus can
probably fill in the specifics. Some might question the usefulness
of *any* 2 inch eyepiece on a C8. The C9.25 on the other hand has a
bigger tube designed with 2 inch eyepieces in mind.

I used the #930 Meade SCT 2" Diagonal on my C8 for years with no problems at
all with any of my EP's such as Naglers, Radians, Panoptics, Plossls, UO
32mm 2" Koenig. This diagonal screws directly onto the back of the OTA.

Avoid screw on diagonals. They are a pain to use if you have to
re-orientate them. Much better to have an adapter tube and a normal
    slide-in 2" diagonal.
