Default Job for my nephew or a con?

I think your nephew is trying to get you to buy a telescope for him.

Sure, you should be able to get some good views with 130 mm scope in
the Finger Lakes region (heck I use my 114 mm scope in my backyard in
light-polluted Rochester), and I'm sure some guests will get a kick
out looking at say, Saturn, when it's around, but do you really think
people will shop for a B&B based on whether there's a telescope
around? I think that will be way down the list, somewhere below having
    a wireless access point.

If you're serious, look up one of the local star clubs and get a look at
what you'll be promoting. We're in Rochester (www.rochesterastronomy.org),
there's another in Syracuse, another in Binghamton, and probably something
    in Ithaca or Elmira. The Finger Lakes area is pretty good for star gazing;
it's part of the attraction of getting out of the city.

Then again, if you're not, we won't see you!

PS $230 isn't enough of an investment to get a real attraction.

Baloney. I brought my 10" Dob to a resort and they were wowed by what they
saw. I even had an invalid in a wheel chair visit the scope.

IMO, you're being taken advantage of. Invest those dollars in something
with a return either for yourself or others- stocks, bonds, retirement or
charity, homeless. Better to put to good use than waste. Let the kid buy
    his own!
