Default High-end APO reviews are pointless

All they basically say is that the optics
    and mechanics are almost perfect.
Well, duh. What else would you expect
for how much they cost? The so-called
    reviews read more like gloating.

Well duh, gloating is what owning APOs is all about.

BTW, you ever thought about upgrading that obsolete piece of
crap Win98 to something decent like Windows 2000 or XP?

If you mean Swawn Grant, you're dead wrong.

My beef with the reviews, is the disproportionate number of reviews on
refractors costing 3 thousand or more, and cheap entry level dobs
costing 5 hundred dollars or less. It's mostly only a pick of the
bottom or the top, with little or no attention given to the broad
middle cost layer. Frankly, I'm sick of reviews covering only 3k
refractors and 500 dollar dobs. How about something at say 1,500
dollars, or 1,000 dollars, or even a different scope design at 3,000
dollars, or something other than a crappy stripped dob at 500 dollars?

Your idea is very good. Why not buy such a scope and write the review
    yourself?

Nice answer JJK! Maybe this thread would better achieve its stated goal
were it titled something more positive like: "Owners of new $1-1.5K
    scopes - Impressions wanted!"

The current thread begins by offending at least two market segments:
those lucky enough to be able to afford $US 3K APO's, and those who can
only afford $500 dobs. That seems an odd approach if the goal is to
entice someone to spend their $1.5K on a new scope and tell us all about
    it.

PS. I'd love to be in the first market segment above. Until then, I can
at least live vicariously through all those $US 3K APO reviews.

    They only claim uniformity because:
    A) The professional reviewers are too dishonest to take sides and say
    "this" scope was superior.
    B) Reviews exist to sell scopes, not illuminate anyone's knowledge of
    them.
Unless of course the review is from an private citizen offering their
    opinion.
Then you have to worry about the reviewing abilities of the person,
    and they
become far more important when reviewing top flight scopes.

Why not? Gotta get some satisfaction from the expenditure.
