Wow - That is very nice. I did not know you could take a 6 min image
with the Canon 10d. I though max exposure was 30 sec (shows what I
    know ;-).

Anyway - what did you use for a lens/scope?

    Regards

    Very nice image Stephen!

I have a few questions that I hope you will comment on ...

In the future I would like to connect a Canon Digital Rebel to my Nexstar5.
If I were to take, for example, 10-6min images while my N5 is tracking in
Alt-Az mode I would imagine that field rotation would be a problem.

My questions are as follows ...

    1. If tracking in Alt-Az mode, is field rotation a problem?

    2. Can the staking software compensate for this problem by "finding" the
correct registration for the images based on the images themselves?

    or

    3. Do the images need to be as close as possible to proper registration when
    taken?

    Thanks for any insight.

Hi, and thank you Lex. I used a Stellarvue 105mm f6.1 APO working at
f5, using a focal reducer. In dark and transparent conditions, eight
minutes at f5 and ASA 1600 has been the longest exposure I've tried.

Thank you John. I've never used an ALT/AZ mount for guiding, although
there are those who have, and successfully. I recall there was an
issue with field rotation and that there was a solution, but, I'm sorry
    I'm not better informed here.

There are two programs I use that can stack images: Images Plus (which
has myriad functionality), and RegiStar-a dedicated stacker.

    http://www.aurigaimaging.com/

I've used RegiStar with mixed media/framing/size with excellent results,
but haven't tried I.P. for anything but consecutive series with
    identical framing.

    Regards,

    Stephen
