    Default Halloween fun!

    Hi Folks....
Tonight was Trick or Treat in our little town in southern Ohio. I was on
the porch adjusting a new Red Dot Spotter scope I had just gotten when my
wife said she ran out of treats (we got hit hard!!!) I had just finished my
adjustments so I took my 6 inch reflector out to the yard and pointed it at
the Moon. In no time at all, I had a line of kids and adults wanting to see
the Moon close up. It was so much fun hearing them saying "WOW!!! NEAT!!!!"
My wife explained to the parents that we had ran out of candy treats so we
were giving the kids a different type of treat!!! One youngster claimed to
see an alien while another amazed me with his knowledge of the lunar
missions and Neil Armstrong. I plan on doing it again next year...maybe more
    often!!!!!!

    Clear Skys to All!!!!

Trick or Treat on the Thursday night before a Friday Halloween? Or was
this all a plot to never buy any candy at all, and you posted the story
early by accident? Tricky Indeed ;-)

    Happy Halloween,
    Shawn

No Shawn, no trickery at all. Greenfield, Ohio does have Trick or Treat on
Thursdays!!! And yes, we did buy candy!!! I think the unusually warm weather
(it was in the 70's yesterday) brought them out in droves!!

    Brian and Lisa,

What a great story. I think that the interest in stargazing is not as
singular or foreign as some might think-"that is for scientists, Nasa,
professionals, someone walking around with computations on a pad that
no one (me) would understand, geeks". My interest started with
photography and branched out to astronomy (last year I got my first
telescope). Thats what I get for pointing a digital camera to the
night sky and getting star patterns...You two might be responsible for
igniting a further interest in astronomy around your wonderful
neighborhood; don't be surprised if some return with questions on your
    scope, etc...Happy halloween
