An answer would depend on the size, type and amount of money
you want to spend. Some companies sell a wide range of telescope
types and sizes. They tend to be better at making some scopes
better than others. Some companies specialize in one or two types
of telescope and are simply outstanding.

What do you want to do with this telescope? How portable must
it be (if at all)? How much are you willing to spend?

2: Read some of the telescope buyers FAQ's that are on the net.

My scope is a Guan Sheng made 10inch f5 dobsonian mounted reflector.
These are marketed by dealers in nth america such as Hands on Optics,
Khan scope and a few others. The Orion XT series is an alternative.

They are quite simply the most affordable quality scopes of decent
aperature (all things being relative of course).

Actually there are some great camera stores that I highly recommend. Oceanside
Photo and Telescope and Woodland Hills Camera are great places to business that
specialize in telescopes but also sell camera stuff. I have bought stuff from
Adorama as well and be satisfied.

But one does have to be cautious, often camera stores have nothing more some
    Department Store type scopes.

I stay away from New York camera stores, for astronomical equipment, even if
their prices are sometimes a bit less. I like polite low pressure sales people.

A lot to be said for polite low pressure sales, but those New York stores do
sell good quality equipment and do provide reasonable, if somewhat abrupt
    service.

They are a viable option though not my number one choice.

Takahashi and AstroPhysics are two great names.

I love my Takahashi FC-60. I sometimes wish it was a little shorter,
