Question Can't install my Mitty Euro Wedge

I've emailed OPT about this, but I thought I'd see if anyone else had some thoughts too. It's quite a frustrating first experience to my gear really.

I received my Mitty Evolution Wedge (Euro Edition) recently, and I'm trying to install it on a new Meade 8" LX200 Telescope using its standard tripod.

The replacement bolt included with the wedge seems too short though. Confusingly, it's shorter than the standard bolt that came with the telescope

The 'instructions' (lol, if they can call one sheet with 3 photos of it instructions) aren't clear at all, but I think I've got it right so far though.

The first photo shows how much of the replacement bolt sticks through when the wedge is on the tripod; it doesn't go high enough, and the tripod is fully extended and as wide as it will go. The second photo shows how I have it installed, with the wedge on top, plate below that, tripod below that, and such. The third photo shows the wedge is flat against the plate. The fourth photo is from below, and the final photo shows how much the bolt rises above the plate.

Finally, the six counter sunk screws that hold the thick plate to the tripod don't seem to go in all the way. They hold the plate very securely, but the tops stick out slightly from the plate. So when I put the wedge on, it isn't completely flat. The photo provided with the wedge shows them in all the way, but to get them even close to flat (and still not) I'd have to twist them so tight I'm afraid I'd break the allen key. So instead I just left those out for now (just till I can figure out the bolt situation).

It seems like the bolt needs to be much longer, and the screws to attach the plate to the tripod a little shorter.

Has anyone else had these problems? Any thoughts? Thank you!

I found some info from a while ago on another board but it confused me just as much. Tripod tip?

"The only trick is the center bolt. One end of the bolt is hollow to allow it to go over the center tip of the tripod. Make sure the center tip of tripod does not stick up too high. If it does, then lower the tip until the center bolt touches the tripod top, not the tip. The tip still needs to stick up for ease of mounting the scope in Alt-Az."

I can't see all the pics, but try flipping spreader bar over where nose of spreader bar that extends is facing up, may give you bit more thread to catch. Whatever screws are not going in all the way doesnt sounds right. Wish I could see pics, but can only see two of them.

Not sure what went wrong with the photos (I'm cursed today perhaps, lol) but just uploaded them to imageshack and edited the post now

Good idea flipping the spreader over. I'll see how that goes now. There's also a second set of counter sunk screws, so I'll see if those go down far enough into the plate too.

You should gain some more thread flipping it over.

Thanks, it attaches perfectly after that

The edges of the spreader are shaped to go with the angled legs of the tripod, so when upside down they don't sit with it so well. But it does the job. Which is great, because no one from the store has replied yet. Not the best impression of customer service.
